Restoran Stadium Negara, Kuala Lumpur…huge disappointment

Restoran Stadium Negara was originally situated near the national stadium – hence its name, but has since relocated to its present location in Jalan Yap Kwan Seng.

Though famous for its steamboat, I wanted to try their other offerings and ended up having my appreciation of Tze Char food being dulled by this  “average” eatery serving culinary disasters. The hokkien style noodle is not hokkien mee without lard. Only then did I find out that this is a halal restaurant. The sweet sour crab was bursting with the flavour of wam Kuala Lumpur tap water. It was neither sweet nor sour  and the accompanying buns were too hard and not hot. The BBQ chicken wing and BBQ sotong were pretty ordinary. The steam prawns turns out to be among the only edible charm at this place.

I really do not like Restoran Stadium Negara. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Rumah Makan Minang, Singapore…my go-to place for reliable and always delicious Indonesian nasi padang

The cooking at Rumah Makan Minang represents the best of original halal Indonesian (sumatran) nasi padang food (rice with a variety of dishes). There’s so many nice things to say about this place, but I’ll will keep it simple.

Sitting outdoors you get to look at the Sultan Mosque. Alternatively, sit upstairs in the air-conditioned dining room. Must taste dishes are sayor lodeh and bergedil (fried potato cutlet). The star dish is the beef rendang -the meat was really tender and the gravy is thick, sweet and spicy. It’s awesome. I just can’t get enough of it. This is my absolute favourite. Last but not least, tahu telor (tofu omelette) was another of my favourite dish, so soft and nice you will just sit there flabbergasted.

Service was quick… no complaints. The prices are also reasonable, although a bit on the high side, although it is worth it to eat such good food.

This is my go-to place for reliable and always delicious Indonesian nasi padang. I’m a fan. I’m definitely a fan. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

IT Roo, Johor Baru…I’ve had better chicken chop

“The best Chicken Chop in town”  the tagline read. That’s arguable. I’ve had better ones.

This humble shop is a walk down memory lane for me with its cool traditional ambience. Simple chairs and tables placed near to each other creating a cramped feel. Very simple decor with pics of JB of old (1950’s-1970’s) hanging on the wall.

The Award-winning chicken chop (awarded by The Star 2003) was first on the extensive menu which offers a range of Western and local dishes. Owned by a Hainanese owner and operated by 4 Malay ladies, the food here are all halal. The succulent chicken fillet is well cooked, fresh and topped with either mushroom sauce or black pepper sauce. You have a choice of breaded or grilled chicken chop.

Footnote: there are some other great food in JB but if you are tired of them all or if you are dying for some western food, then check IT Roo out. This is the true truth because I say it as it is…
