Gurney Drive, Singapore…This place gives Penang a bad name

I love Penang food.  But I hate Gurney Drive (restaurant) in Suntec Singapore.  This place is an atrocity to the wonderful flavour combinations that encompass Penang food.

Char kway teow and assam laksa were deeply lacking in subtle spice or interesting flavor. Both were mediocre and were a complete disappointment. It was simply gross.

This place sucks.  My suggestion would be that you take your precious money and go elsewhere. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Cityhealth Clinic & Surgery, Singapore…Dr Karen has a good head, but also a heart and soul

Dr Karen Ho…my GP…..where should I start? A full-on rave review will be forthcoming.

She is knowledgeable, approachable and is able to nail what’s wrong so easily.

The clinic is very clean and organized, but the wait stories are true.  Every time I’ve visited there, I’ve had to wait 30 minutes (unless i get there before the 8.30am opening time).

BUT… she really takes the time with her patients.  She’s never on the edge of her seat like she wants to hustle you away so she can bank on the next patient.  She doesn’t talk fast like answering your questions are trivial.  She just calmly sits there until you feel assured you have every question you have answered for this visit. She is super detailed and attentive. Excellent follow-up on test results.

Overall she’s a great doctor and can be trusted. She has a  good head, but also a heart and soul. You won’t go wrong if you see this woman. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Joe’s Crab Shack, Los Angeles…crab may be their name, but crab didn’t seem to be their game.

This is a tough one to write, because my first visit about 10 years ago was unforgettable. This recent visit, was quite forgettable.

The ambience is a laid-back, roomy restaurant. Desiree, our waitress was friendly and service was good and quick. However, it is definitely overpriced for the quality of food you get.

We started with a classic sampler and had the steam Pot for 2 (a nice collection of seafood) as the main.  The crab was plain, lacking flavour, dry, not juicy and extra SALTY. Crab may be their name, but crab didn’t seem to be their game.

As soon as the song “Love shack” comes on, the servers put on a little dance thing in the middle of the restaurant…makes the dining experience that much cheesier and corny.

I wouldn’t return. Sorry Joe’s! This is the true truth and I say it as it is…

Crossword Bookstores, Mumbai…my second home in India. The prices are (honestly) incomparable.

This is my second home in India. This is by far, my favorite place in Mumbai. I could spend hours there… wandering around the bookshelves. It’s organized clutter, with thousands (millions?) of books to consider adding to your collection.

They got a good combination of books, magazines, CDs collection, toys and boardgames but what attracts is the huge collection of books. From latest best sellers to children books, from Self-Help to Management. Being a chain of bookstores, Crossword is scattered all over Mumbai…..the one at Mohammedbhai Mansion (below Kemps Corner fly over) is best.

The best thing is it’s not necessary for you to buy a book if you have entered you can sit and read the book if you wish you buy or else visit again and complete the book.

The prices are …honestly, incomparable. If you so decide to buy, you can immediately started adding up how much money you would save if you came from a place like Singapore, or Malaysia or USA – another plus for Crossword.  Regardless of the low prices, this is an engrossing store. I found books which were not available in my travels all over Asia. It’s definitely cheaper here than Barnes & Nobles and

There is just so many books. You’ll enter Corssword with a book in mind, but you’ll probably leave with one or two books that you had no intention of bringing home. Crossword Bookstore is worth stopping by and hanging out, who knows what you’ll find. This is the true truth as I still say it as it is…
