Lemon Tree, Johor Bahru…God damn is it good.

Much like the beef burger, chicken chop in particular is undergoing something of a renaissance in JB at the moment. Johoreans crave simple comfort food made with better ingredients and more thoughtful recipes.

At Lemon Tree, the lip-licking Hawaiian grilled chicken chop is rich, sticky, sweet and intense. It is ravishing enough to render me temporarily speechless. It’s not just good, it’s unmistakably unique. You could close your eyes, taste this dish, and know it didn’t come from anywhere else. The black pepper grilled chicken chop is another fan favourite. Besides its deliciousness, Its affordability is another reason for its popularity – it’s like a money-saving hack for living in JB.

If anything, my love for the place has intensified. The bird is the word. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Wow Wow West, Singapore…if you walked away with one regret, it will be that you didn’t experience the pork cheese sausage sooner

This is one of the best Western food hawker stalls I have ever come across in Singapore. You get lots of food for a pretty cheap price here. The food comes out relatively quickly here

We ordered the chicken chop and pork cheese sausages, and liked them both.  We’re too full to even get up from the table. The thick chicken chop, almost jellylike in its tenderness and with homemade coleslaw and French fries sitting politely by the side, looks positively delightful. The uniquely ultra-delicious pork cheese sausages have a smooth and creamy texture. it had that serious punch and kick and you get that cheese also in the same bite and it had a nice snap when you cut into it and bit. Hands down my favorite.

Only catch is, be prepared to queue. If you’re reading this then you’re just one of thousands trying to work out when is the best time to go and how on earth you can avoid that god forsaken queue.

A friend of mine always raved about this place & I finally got around to trying it. Now I  understand what all the hype is about! It’s a worthy stop when you just want a piece of sausage, flawlessly prepared. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

IT Roo, Johor Baru…I’ve had better chicken chop

“The best Chicken Chop in town”  the tagline read. That’s arguable. I’ve had better ones.

This humble shop is a walk down memory lane for me with its cool traditional ambience. Simple chairs and tables placed near to each other creating a cramped feel. Very simple decor with pics of JB of old (1950’s-1970’s) hanging on the wall.

The Award-winning chicken chop (awarded by The Star 2003) was first on the extensive menu which offers a range of Western and local dishes. Owned by a Hainanese owner and operated by 4 Malay ladies, the food here are all halal. The succulent chicken fillet is well cooked, fresh and topped with either mushroom sauce or black pepper sauce. You have a choice of breaded or grilled chicken chop.

Footnote: there are some other great food in JB but if you are tired of them all or if you are dying for some western food, then check IT Roo out. This is the true truth because I say it as it is…
