La Favela, Bali…get there

Nightlife can take many forms, but for Balinese and visitors looking to let off a little steam, nothing quite does the job like a night at La Favela.

The setup: There are semi-indoor gardens, artificial waterfalls and ponds, alfresco tables and chairs. Indoors the interior design is really amazing, a real work of art where antique furniture lines its floors, plants seem to be (artfully) overgrown and even old bikes and a Volkswagen van rounds off the appearance. There are cosy, intimate spaces that will have everyone spilling secrets within the hour.

Will I fit in? This is a night out for anyone and everyone, so the crowd is a real mixed bag. Oh, and more beautiful people than at a Victoria Secret’s casting. A word of advice, though: you will probably feel most at home here if you aren’t too far past your early twenties.

La Favela does a fantastic job of setting itself apart from the rest of the spots in Bali. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Mantin original Coconut Shake, Seremban…Your body will thank you

In the searing heat and humidity of Malaysia, coconut shake — both refreshing and a smart choice for long, sun-baked afternoons — are moving into wide circulation.

Creamy, fragrant and refreshing, this drink is the perfect thirst quencher and body cooler. The flavor profile for coconut shake completely changes depending on the sweetener or ice cream. At Mantin, it’s the true-and-tested dosage of vanilla.

When coconut is in abundance, this is a great way to use it. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

The Eagle, Cambridge…a lead hangout

It’s about 400 years old,  full of charm and a Cambridge student feel and it’s where Watson and Crick supposedly discovered the structure of DNA.

Proper food here as well as bar snacks, all the usual pub classics and it’s pretty meat-heavy. Lots of burgers – the Buttermilk fried chicken burger – Ayrshire-dry cured bacon, guacamole & chilli mayo is a winner – and sausages and chicken. Fish & chips – battered cod, crushed peas, tartare sauce, triple-cooked chips was perfectly golden, crisp, firm but flaky and succulent.

For a pub The Eagle does a decent selection of standard cocktails. Everyone cares about their pints. There are plenty of the usual lagers and bitters on offer

It seems to have already cemented itself as a lead hangout in Cambridge. Time to get glugging. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

ChaTraMue, Bangkok…Thailicious tea

Who said non-alcoholic drinks are safe? It’s 2:00pm in Bangkok and I’m sucking down Thai tea without regard for the diabetic onslaught that will follow. May my blood sugar levels be damned.

Thai iced tea is one of the first things people fall in love with when dining at a typical Thai restaurant. This tea is bright orange. It will look like you took a handful of carrots and threw them in a blender with some water. Cha TraMue has outlets and kiosks all over Bangkok. An array of flavours, they also have the option of adding tapioca pearls…just like bubble tea. The tea flavours really stand out and not as sweet as most other Thai tea.

So delicious and sooooooooo worth it! #Addicted #ThaiTea. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…
