Thai Imperial, Johor Bahru…that’s my hard earned money given to a stranger for nothing.

Life in Singapore can be tense. We gird ourselves for overcrowded commutes. We hunch over technology all day long, sit through stressful meetings. Every once in a bit, I permit myself a break and head to Johor Bahru with tired feet, tight muscles and shoulders in need of soothing.

Thai Imperial is in a house and they have three reserved parking spots right in front of their door but the therapist is below average and not very good at finding the spots that need work and nor working them thoroughly enough. There was no stretching or anything. I was hoping to sooth my muscle pain at my neck / back, but got 0 difference.

That’s my hard earned money given to a stranger for nothing. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Imperial Thai, Penang…goodbye to the knots in my back!

It’s no secret that Singaporeans are stressed. Traditional Thai deep-tissue massage appeal to a growing interest in treatments and proving particularly popular amongst Singaporeans and Malaysians.

Khun Pha had some power behind her. For over an hour, every inch of my body was stretched, pummeled and finally, relaxed. I was seriously impressed with Khun Pha and her technique. Goodbye to the knots in my back!

Hit Imperial Spa to relax from the insanity of the city. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

The Thai Café & Spa, Bangkok…the most amazing feeling

If you liked to be pulled, punched and stepped on, this is the place for you. You’re there to be worked on. And walked on. Your treatment will be half-ecstasy, half-exorcism, and if you’re into that sort of thing, it’s pretty great.

Khun Pop (#53) will gouge with knuckles and knead with fists, contort limbs and lean into elbows to loosen tendons and ligaments. It’s a kind of deep-tissue bodywork that can be so intense that some jokingly liken it to masochism.

The reward is you feel such a relief when you leave that it’s just the most amazing feeling. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

ATV Tour, Phuket…escape the boring 9-5

Filed under: Activities, ATV, Flying fox, Thailand, Tour, Travel — Tags: , , , , — PEr @ 5:06 pm

Visiting a Thai massage barely sounds like the place to grab a quick adrenaline fix – but there are still plenty of knuckle-shredding activities to indulge in within Phuket.

August is the rainy season in Phuket and the ATV was a muddy ride for sure! They provide crocs sandals and I definitely recommend using them. They provided ponchos to wear over your clothes when it started raining , but expect to be sweaty under than poncho. A couple of colleagues purposely wore old clothes  that they were willing to throw away.

With the flying fox, you can let out your inner baboon and go through the 100m Adventure bridge comprising various obstacles. Clamber up two flights of steps and whizz along 110m zipwires.

The crew were friendly and informative.  Everyone in our group felt so safe, even those who were not huge adrenaline junkies.

A great way to escape the boring 9-5. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Urban Retreat, Bangkok…Save your money and go elsewhere

Thai massage isn’t for everyone, especially when it’s done traditionally (read: aggressively). You’re not there to be pampered. You’re there to be worked on. And walked on.

Smack dab a stone’s throw from the Asok BTS station, this urban oasis offers a full menu of spa services from massages and body scrubs to body mask and waxing. Sadly, their traditional massage here was  no-ecstasy, all-exorcism. The masseur – Khun Waew – resorted to simply ‘brute’ strength more than correct technique. She ignored everything I asked for, which was to focus on my lower back. I really think this woman has no clue on the proper technique of Thai massage and started making things up.

Save your money and go elsewhere. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Let’s Relax Spa, Bangkok…disappointing at best

Facing another day of marathon shopping, BTS trains, traffic jams, food and more food, your family and/or friends may have reached the point where a mutiny is being whispered around the breakfast table. We’ve all been there. Fortunately, Bangkok offers plenty of diverse choices to sooth your body, recharge your batteries and to reconnect with yourself.

Let’s Relax is a luxurious day spa which offers a wide variety of spa packages such as Thai-style massages, herbal body wraps, foot and hand reflexology, and facial relaxation treatments. This place is more expensive than every where else I have been so far in Thailand. But I don’t mind paying to get a good massage.  This was a MEH massage. This place is HORRIBLY overpriced for a Thai traditional massage and the masseur does not work on my problem areas.

To put it bluntly this was not my scene. The lemongrass drink before the massage, the mango sticky rice after the massage–the whole thing was not my jam. Maybe it’s yours? If so, enjoy the THB900 Thai massage that is strong but lack technique. I’ll be elsewhere. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Scents & Senses A Touch of Thai, Melaka…an authentic, pocket-friendly massage that takes you right back to the massage shops in Thailand

The serene, authentic Zen-like Asian aesthetics interiors here make it just as relaxing to sit on a soft sofa with a drink as it is to lie down and be manipulated. In a day and age where regular massages are no longer seen as just a luxury for the rich, but a necessity for the health conscious, places like Scents & Senses are so important. They offer locals a reliable and affordable place to go. Not just once, but time and time again.

With no bells and whistles to distract, the Thai massage takes center stage, with the exceptionally talented Khun Safe, the masseuse loosening parts of the body I didn’t even know were tense to begin with.  This woman’s hands were made for massage, her thumbs found and removed knots in my lower back as if she was popping bubble wrap. Truly massage bliss.

Totally professional service, reasonable prices, intense and deep massages, the therapists are all from Thailand and made for a great, authentic experience! I won’t go anywhere else in Melaka after finding this place. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Asia Herb Association Herbal Massage and Spa, Bangkok…..That was as close to heaven as I’ve been

Wow is all I can say.

I’m a self-proclaimed massage addict and have been getting regular massages for the last 20+ years and have had been worked on by dozens of therapists all over the world. The two traditional Thai masseurs at Asia Herb Association in Thonglor, were as professional and skilled as I’ve experienced. Number 621 (Khun Dow) was strong and energetic… the massage was something like a combination deep-tissue and manipulation session. She used elbows, fists and feet and bent, pulled, kneaded, stretched and flexed me into a pretzel, to work out deep knots in my muscles in particular, my lower back. I just loved it when she walked on my back.  It bordered on exquisitely painful at times, but the sense of looseness and relaxation when the session is done was truly amazing. On my second visit, masseur number 47 had incredible brute strength, and her technique was very direct. She did a lot of detailed work on the problem areas in my back, and the relief was dramatic. Made me feel like a million bucks.

Love the fact that they are open from 9am to 2am and the staff are really nice. The interiors are done up in an opulent Thai decor which made the ambience very calming, and at just THB400 for an hour, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better massage value in Bangkok. BARGAIN  of the century!

Huge stack of “damn that feels amazing!” That was as close to heaven as I’ve been.  This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Siam Legend Thai Massage, Johor Baru…cheap doesn’t mean good

Horrid! Horrid! Horrid!

The first masseur came out to where I was sitting at the reception looking so solemn like her goldfish’d died. No eye contact, no smile. Only a scrowl. Needless to say, I asked for a change of massuer

The massage I’ve gotten was, well, horrible. The massuer seemed to not know what she was doing at all, almost seemed scared to apply any pressure whatsoever and, consequently, barely massaged anything, let alone the knots in my lower back and shoulder.

Be warned, you get what you pay for with this place. They are rude, unprofessional and dont even use good massage therapists.

Let it be known that I get massages all the time from different people– I knew  what to expect for the price and environment. I knew it would not be the best massage I ever got, but it would suffice.  But I did not expect getting the worst massage experience of my life!

Hopefully, this review will help others NOT go to this horrid place.
If I could give a negative star, I would! This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Thong Thai Traditional Thai Massage, Johor Baru…very affordable and absolutely magical

If anyone loves massages – it’s me. I love many different forms of massages but the Thai style massages have become one of my favorites. They do not usually use any types of oils or lotions yet they are able to work every single muscle.

This is a small place in Holiday Plaza, but really quiet and you can get a clean room (your mattress is separated by a curtain from the others) to get a massage. They will give you a little outfit to change into once you enter the cubicle. The masseur located my knots and relentlessly drove into them like a jackhammer. I was bent, pulled, and stretched into positions I never thought my body was capable of. I got elbowed and kneed at every little crevices of my body and I left feeling like I got pounded with a meat tenderizer and whacked with a rolling pin.

It is also very affordable. 60 minutes traditional thai massage was RM58.

All I know is that I felt incredibly relaxed afterwards and that it was worth the money.  Absolutely magical!! This is the true truth as I say it as it is…
