MTR 1924, Singapore…dosa that sets my tastebud into overdrive

The appeal does not immediately suggest itself; the décor is strictly no-frills. But this was a place to eat with seriousness and vigour. This place is a bit pricier, but it’s honestly so worth the cost.  If you want full-bodied food with flavour and spice, this is your place. The food is noticeably high quality, fresh  and amazingly delicious.

The uddin vadas are a traditional South Indian dish which can be eaten as a main course, side dish, or snack. This crispy deliciousness is made from lentil and fried in donut shape dumplings. They are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.  Served with sambar and coconut chutney, it was quite exceptional.

So what about the dosa?  The menu describes it as a pancake made from rice batter and black lentil. When it was served it was a large triangle crepe.  The dosa was the perfect texture–light and fluffy, yet crisp and thick, if that makes any sense. It came with coconut chutney and sambar, a lentil broth. Did the combination work? Oh my lordy lord, YES!!!

This is probably one of the best South Indian restaurants I’ve eaten at (it’s even better than some of the food that I had in India…shhh!). This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Sheraton New Delhi…good dining options in hotel and its vicinity

Dated decor but friendly service – prompt and courteous.

Its location in the new and exciting commercial center of Saket in South Delhi is great as it is very near to three malls – MGF Metropolitan (you can skip this one. You won’t miss anything), Select Citywalk and DIF Place. With so many eateries in these malls (TGIF and Hard Rock Cafe are there if you want some comfort food) and the very good Dakshin, Sheraton’s restaurant that specialises in authentic South Indian cuisine, you’ll never go hungry during your stay. Dakshin’s prawn masala and mushroom masala is recommended but forget the kodi briyani. It’s mushy and soggy. Baywatch is their breakfast room with high ceiling, great pool view and lush landscapes. M Prakash, the chef remembers my special dosa order 2 days later. The mango shake is  a WOW. At this hotel and with the malls beside, you can find that glutton in you.

A couple of hiccups. The internet assistant blamed the  front office for my inconnectivity but when I called front office, they said there is no problem. At 1am, they conspired to waste 25 mins of my time when I simply wanted to send one email before hitting the bed. I ordered a car and driver at the concierge but the car arrived late, causing me to be late for my appointment.

All things considered, you can’t go wrong with Sheraton New Delhi. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…
