Mitsui Outlet Park, Kuala Lumpur…you will be sorely disappointed

As the economy and inflation continue to pinch consumers’ wallets, outlets are a great way to save money on your favorite brands. Who doesn’t love a deal?

There are 13 Mitsui Outlet Parks across Japan but this is the first one outside of the country. Located 60km from KL and 6km from KLIA, the outlet offers 127 stores with brands such as Nike, Levi’s, Versace, Polo Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, Samsonite and Swarovski.

Plenty of stores here really aren’t discount stores, they’re just there to confuse consumers into thinking they are. Here are some hot tips : be familiar with current merchandise to be able to identify clothing that may be a few seasons old. Knowing retail prices before entering a store can help you make better decisions.

If you’re looking for a good buy at great discount, you will be sorely disappointed. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Wertheim Village, Frankfurt…you’ll find offers to make you salivate

There are many deals to be had for the serious bargain hunter who is willing to venture an hour outside the city limits and commit themselves to a designer clothing fiesta at discount store prices. Wertheim Village is an adventure for anyone who has champagne taste on a beer budget, or can’t bear to buy anything at full price.

This sprawling Franconian style outdoor shopping center boasts over 110 brands and popular stores such as WMF, Zwilling J.A. Henckels, The Body Shop, Lindt, Calvin Klein and Geox. Bargains on upscale merchandise as bags by Kate Spade and Coach to fashion by Hugo Boss to Polo Ralph Lauren. The downside is that searching for bargains works up an appetite, however, there are not that many places to eat here.  Like all other shopping malls in Frankfurt, the outlet is closed on Sundays. With regards to getting there, if you choose the “express option” you will be taken in a luxury coach in central Frankfurt to Wertheim Village and simply meet back up with your host at the prearranged time to return to Frankfurt.

Take a trip to Wertheim Village and you’ll find offers to make you salivate. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

La Roca Village, Barcelona…worth a visit

La Roca Village is a factory designer outlet shopping mall located 45 minutes from Barcelona. There is a direct bus connection from Plaza Catalunya.

It is designed as if it were a village, which of course is where the name comes from, so it is an open space with wide boulevards and several restaurants. There are over 100 luxury designer names like Versace, Zegna, La Perla, Loewe, Hugo Boss, Polo Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein. Across the village, don’t miss out the Nike and MNG stand-alone outlets.

This is worth a visit as there are so many shops in such a close proximity. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Beijing Yansha Outlets, China…factory outlet equivalent with real (not fakes) branded stuff

This bargain mall is made up of three complexes. Building C has a number of outlet stores selling Branded stuff on the ground floor. Names like Kent & Curwen, Hugo Boss, Timberland, Kenzo, Tommy Hilfiger, Dunhill, Nine West….you get the point. Upon checking and reconfirming with the locals and those in the know, I have been assured that these are the real things…not fakes. I don’t recognise a single brand on the second floor while the third floor seems to have some restaurants and a small electronics section (Apple, etc..).

Buildings A and B are for those willing to brave the overwhelming selection. Both resemble big department stores; there are no individual outlets here, just divisions marked by shop signage. Building A has an impressive selection of sunglasses on the ground floor. The sporting goods on the second floor features a Nike Factory Outlet Store and selections from brands such as Puma, Adidas and Columbia.

I was told by the locals that this mall was very popular when it first opened but its popularity has since dwindled. Having been there personally, I can understand why. Though it’s understandable that most of these bargain malls carry fashion of a few seasons ago, it’s either you can’t find the size you want or the prices are not really low. But if you look hard enough, you will find some bargains that is a steal. That’s the true truth as I say it as it is…
