Raymond’s, New Jersey…it doesn’t get more old school that this

You may not be able to tell from the outside, but stepping into this nondescript diner is like  going back in time, gotta love that 1930s style décor.

On the food front, not to miss is Raymond’s French Toast – with fresh fruit and pure Berkshires maple syrup which is heavenly – amped up with a side of smoked bacon – some of the best smoked bacons I have ever had. The food is prepared and served significantly better than most diners in tourist areas or business districts, but it’s still affordable. For a weekday breakfast, you will feel right at home.

Raymond’s reminds us that some things should never change. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Café Yoshimi, Sapporo…refreshingly, as simple as that

If I know one thing it’s this: Japan has its fair share of absolutely gorgeous Instagram-worthy cafes and restaurants. Tucked away in the first basement floor of the newly opened Akarenga Terrace, Cafe Yoshimi is perhaps the platonic ideal of a café. Relaxed, quietly confident service matches the food and beverage offering.

If you’re after something for straight-up deliciousness, the chocolate and banana pancake is on a par with anywhere in the country. The banana and chocolate are a classic combination and coupled with eh soft and fluffy pancakes, this is irrefutable proof that God exists and wants us to be happy. The thick-cut French Toast and ketchup sauce Omurice add to the all-round appeal of this popular spot.

Unhurried atmosphere, lovely service and great food, Café Yoshimi has it all. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Restoran Yut Kee, Kuala Lumpur…borderline Discovery Channel good. Indulge.

A kopitiam is a traditional “coffee shop” in Malaysia and Singapore. The hainanese community is well-known to run or own kopitiams. There’s the Starbucks and Coffee Beans of this world but kopitiam is the kind of place where you find yourself a cheap honest-to-goodness cuppa joe.

Yut Kee has been serving local-style brew and traditional Hainanese fare since 1928. Roti Babi (literally translated: pork bread) could be considered a savory french toast stuffed with pulled pork. It is crazy good. That’s why you’re here. Indulge. As for the kaya toast, the “kaya” (coconut jam) here was one of the best I’d ever had. The taste is one you won’t soon forget: luscious, even creamy, delivering seriously potent flavour….enough to make my mouth water. I could have finished the jar straight up spoon-to-mouth.

Short story shorter, the roti babi and kaya toast are borderline Discovery Channel good. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…
