Dragon-I, Johor Bahru…it’s Chinese food done properly

I could not have been more excited. I have enjoyed everything this group has offered whenever I’ve been to one of its KL outposts, and I was thrilled that I would no longer have to travel so far.

The food at Dragon-i is really nice and really distinctive. We ordered the Auspicious Treasure Pot (Poon Choi b/ pencai). What arrived was a sizable bowl of braised Chilean premium abalone, premium sea cucumber, Japanese dried scallops and oysters, premium mushrooms and fresh sea prawns, roast chicken, braised pork belly, pork balls, dried beancurd skin, yam, black moss, chinese cabbage, broccoli, deep fried beancurd skin, radish and pork bone stock. The seafood was fresh and well-seasoned; the pork juicy and tender; and the vegetables soaked up the richly flavoured broth very nicely. Service is extremely efficient in this large operation, but don’t expect it to be cuddly.

Drawbacks? The kitchen occasionally gets things wrong, but when it’s on song – the food is really nice. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Dragon-I, Hong Kong…cream of Hong Kong’s club scene

Whether you’re looking to meet someone new, dance to the biggest DJs in the world or just want to have the kind of legendary night you’ll keep secret until the day you die, you’ll find it all in Hong Kong.

Dragon-I is an amazing uber-chic club with a stunning setting. A dining area known as Red Room, a dance floor and bar space with New York-style booth seating called Playground. It doubles as a modern restaurant and the food is surprisingly good. The crowd is those that know and those that want to find out.

Dragon-I is the cream of Hong Kong’s club scene ensuring a great night out in style. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Dragon-i, Kuala Lumpur…made me want to roll my eyes

Perhaps her mum doted on her too much as a child, or she got picked on in high school, whatever the reason, the manager of this Dragon-I in Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur is infatuated with her position. The hole in her ego is so big, nothing can fill it. Megalomania is tragedy. She was just too important to take orders of hungry customers when all her front line staff are occupied for the longest time.

And when you have a head with such attitude it is no surprise that the radish cake we ordered was forgotten. And the food that was served was quite frankly ridiculously overrated and made me want to roll my eyes.

And let’s be real, if you’re going to shell out the big bucks on chinese food and get treated like a number, it might as well be at some other restaurants that serve something actually really tasty, am I right? This is the true truth as I say it as it is…
